Push play.

Years before launching Rare Records, I started freestyling. It started as just a playful way to express my pain and heavy emotions, til’ I quickly realized, “WAIT! I’m kinda good at this.” As a spoken word poet I had performed on several stages but I never considered elevating my gift with words in this way.

I liked the way it made me feel. I loved how freestyling liberated me. Even after being rejected after I posed the idea of making music to my friends at the time, I knew I was going to do it. It just felt right. The rest is history. These are some raw, unpolished moments of my journey as an indie artist.
